Inscribed Stele

Dating: 7th century CE

Provenance: My Son B6 Tower, Quang Nam Province

Inventory No.: BTC 4

Material: Sandstone

Discovered near the western flank of Structure B6 at My Son in 1903, this stele was transferred to the Museum in 1918. The inscription was erected on May 19, 687 CE (Year 609 of the Saka era) and is written in Sanskrit. The text glorifies King Prakasadharma, who dedicated a vaulted temple structure and a kosa (a decorative precious metal sheath covering a Linga) to the deities Isanesvara and Bhadresvara (encompassed in Linga form). The deities are likened to the sun and the moon as well as the pillars supporting the king’s renown, serving as eternal symbols of his divine glory.
