Henri Parmentier and the Founding of Da Nang Cham Museum

Henri Parmentier (1870-1949) was a French architect and archaeologist of the École française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO) who devoted his career to surveying and preserving Cham monuments.
Founding the Museum
He advocated for a dedicated museum at the Tourane riverbank in 1915 and designed the iconic neoclassical building subtly echoing Cham temple rooflines (inaugurated in 1919).
His monumental treatise “L’Inventaire descriptif des monuments cams de l’Annam” remains the cornerstone of Champa studies worldwide.
