Royal Court Dance and Music
Dating: 11th century CE
Provenance: Chanh Lo, Quang Ngai Province
Inventory No.: BTC 162
Material: Sandstone
This sculpture likely served as a lintel spanning above the entrance doorway of a temple tower. Although unfinished and weathered by time, the expressive rendering of the heads, hands, torsos, and knees of the female dancers, alongside the animated postures of the musicians, conveys a striking sense of fluid, skillful motion amidst the lively harmonies of a royal court feast. This is the second work depicting this narrative theme within the Museum’s collection (the other piece is currently on display in the My Son Gallery, Inventory No. BTC 2).
